‘I’m not sailing on that old thing, do you have anything newer ?’ was a question that I was once asked by a guest. I was actually taken aback as the ship in question was 14 months old and at the time this particular regular guest felt that was old hat.
This question has made me think a lot over the years and when promoting cruise ships I have had the following thoughts:
- How old and up to date is the ship.
- Are the USP’s modern enough for the current market place.
- Is the ship sailing to interesting destinations with good accessibility from the UK.
- How good is the cruise line at maintaining their ships and their upgrade schedules.
- Does the ship still warrant its star rating.
Now lets move on to 2020 and talk about the Celebrity Cruises ‘Revolution’
Celebrity Cruises are going through a renaissance with the launch of their new class of ship ‘Celebrity Edge Class’ that in May 2019 visited Southampton for the first time. This in itself is a revolution in the style of cruise offering but just as exciting is the ‘Revolution’ of the existing celebrity Fleet.
Building new ships, pushing the boundaries and being creative has always been the most exciting aspect of the cruise industry, until now….
I was lucky enough to have witnessed Celebrity Millennium’s naming ceremony in (yes you’ve guessed it) the year 2000. Since then Millennium has had two major refits. These upgrades mainly concentrated on public areas adding new dining venues and generally tidying the ship up.
in February 2019 Celebrity Millennium was the first ship to undergo her revolution and our guests have been blown away with the results:
New Staterooms throughout the ship, every stateroom onboard (from Interior to Suite) have been stripped back and rebuilt. Inspired by Kelly Hoppen, Celebrity Cruises have brought influences from the new Edge Class ship to Celebrity Millennium.
