With the world being aware of climate change and sustainable tourism Celebrity Cruises welcome Celebrity Flora to the fleet. This is the first ship of its kind to have been built specifically for The Galapagos Islands, with 50 luxury suites, offering two seven night itineraries for the inner and outer loop islands.
Celebrity Cruises are committed to the welfare of these islands and with over 16 years of sailing in this area they have designed a ship which is eco-friendly. Flora does not have a traditional anchor this has been replaced with a state of the art GPS system that controls the ship thrusters to keep her precisely positioned, along with her stabilisers reducing movement by up to 90% when stationary. This system protects the environment and seabed and cause less damage than an conventional anchor may do. Along with being one of the most energy-efficent ships in the Galapagos, Flora keeps in line with the modern luxury that Celebrity Cruises are known for.
There is also a working laboratory on board which is part of a programme known as Oceanscope from the University of Miami Rosentiel School of Maritime Science. This will track and map the area, gathering data for the research predition of El Nino and La Nina and measuring sea-surface temperatures. This will provide a continuous stream of data giving a greater understanding of what makes the Galapagos ecosystem unique. The data gathered is available globally and those who are on board with have direct access to ‘The Lab’ within the public area.
On board with be nine resident eco-experts who will lead the ecological seminars, and will guide and inform guests on the custom designed Novurania yacht tenders as they experience the uniqueness of the Galapagos.
Celebrity Flora offers 50 luxury suites all designed as out-ward facing, using sustainable natural materials and local sourced bath products, full room automation which allows you to control everything by a switch of a button, personal suite attendants and intagrated drinking water filtration system.
A first at sea is the ‘Glamping Experience’ on the top deck. Two luxurious cabanas offering the unique experience of sleeping under the stars – with two separate areas the cabana offers a sleeping area complete with a double bed and the other area is for relaxing and enjoying alfresco meals and camp-fired inspired menu, along with selected wines and cocktails. There will also be a naturalist available to highlight the constellations and stars directly from your cabana seats. This experience is available at an additional fee.
